4 Factors that cause grain damage in long storage times
In agricultural material processing plants, it is no stranger to find grain storage places in the form of warehouses or silos. This bulk warehouse/silo is used to accommodate grain, both for direct and for reserve material. the certainty of storage time varies, ranging from daily, daily, monthly. For certain types of grain storage duration can be more than 90 days, which is usually influenced by the price of basic commodities to market demand.
However, there are a few things to be aware of if the grain is stored for more than 90 days, because otherwise the grain can spoil and change in taste. Here are 4 factors that cause damaged grain materials:
1. Poor air circulation system in rainfall warehouses / silos, so the air is not circulated evenly. The use of blower fans alone is very useful at outside temperatures in bulk warehouses / silos.
2. The temperature of the grain is high at the time of storage, ideally for storage of more than 60 days the temperature of the grain is recommended at 15 °Celcius. At this temperature the pests/insects cannot develop because they are in hibernation.
3. The moisture content of stored grain is too high, ideal for long-term storage recommended at 13-15% moisture content.
4. The humidity level is too high. The humidity level in the bulk warehouse/silo should not be more than 70%. Low humidity levels can inhibit mold growth.
The solution to overcome the 4 factors that cause grain damage in the long term is a grain cooler. This machine works to circulate cold air throughout the grain through the sidelines of the grain. This machine is specially designed in Germany and has been tested for more than 50 years and has been used all over the world.
